Nakodar: Ever since the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government came to power in Punjab, local MLA Bibi Inderjit Kaur Mann has consistently claimed that there would be no shortage of funds for the Nakodar constituency and that urban development projects would be prioritized. However, the ground reality paints a starkly different picture. A closer look at the city’s dire state reveals that the MLA’s claims are proving to be utterly false, a fact that should shake the very foundations of the administration and political leadership, robbing them of their peace!
Jain Colony: A Living Testimony to Broken Promises
Ward No. 17, located on Kapurthala Road, is home to Jain Colony, where a critical road project has been stalled for years, with construction completely halted. Residents have repeatedly appealed to Municipal Council officials and even directly to MLA Bibi Mann, but despite these pleas stretching back nearly three years, the situation remains unchanged. The residents of Jain Colony feel betrayed and abandoned. They lament that while the sewerage pipeline was laid long ago, the water supply pipeline has yet to be installed. Furthermore, after the sewerage work, the roads were left in a deplorable state—badly broken and with no signs of repair or reconstruction. Whenever they approach their ward councilor, Ranjani Bangar, they receive the same tired, pre-rehearsed response: “The road will be built very soon.”
Where Did the Funds Go? Contradictions Expose the Truth!
When the Executive Officer (E.O.) of the Municipal Council is questioned on this matter, the standard reply is, “Funds have arrived in abundance, and the road work will begin very soon.” However, the E.O.’s “very soon” never materializes. If, as the E.O. claims, funds have indeed arrived, then the critical question is: Where are those funds being utilized? If it has taken the E.O. three years to even begin work on this single road, then to whom are the funds allocated to the Municipal Council truly going? This is a question the E.O. alone must answer to the citizens of Nakodar.
Adding to the confusion, when another Municipal Council official was contacted by phone, they gave a contradictory statement, revealing that a tender for the road has been issued, but the Municipal Council lacks the necessary funds, leading to the work’s halt.
Is Nakodar’s Development a Casualty of Political Infighting?
The conflicting statements from various officials clearly suggest that the MLA herself might be misleading the city’s residents about the availability of funds for urban development. If funds are indeed plentiful, then when will they actually be disbursed for city projects? When will development work finally commence in the wards? Is the public merely caught in the crossfire of internal squabbles between the MLA and the Municipal Council President? Or will Nakodar ever truly see development?
The people of Nakodar are desperately awaiting answers, and their patience is wearing thin. They demand accountability and immediate action. If the administration and political leaders fail to address these pressing concerns swiftly, their own political future could well mirror the broken, neglected roads of Nakodar—plunging into darkness! This is a direct challenge to their authority and a stark reminder that public trust, once lost, is difficult to regain.
