Nakodar: A fresh layer of controversy has emerged in Nakodar surrounding the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), as BJP Punjab’s treasurer and chairman of the SC/BC General Cell, Davinder Kaler, received crucial new information possibly linked to earlier irregularities in the scheme. The twist came when an anonymous person sent a photo showing a PMAY nameplate lying inside the Tax Department’s office. This discovery prompted Davinder Kaler to form a fact-finding team comprising press reporter Sarwan Das Hans, Baba Kulwinder Singh (President, SC/BC General Cell Punjab), and BJP leader Gaurav Sehgal. The team visited the Municipal Council office and questioned tax officials. One official, Harvinder Singh, who identified himself as newly appointed, failed to give any concrete explanation.
The team then went to the PMAY office, where they obtained the details of a beneficiary named Bimla, wife of Balbir Chand, residing in Krishna Nagar, Nakodar. Upon reaching her house, they found it in a dilapidated state—walls were crumbling, and there was severe water leakage. Media representatives and municipal officers were also present during the visit.
Bimla’s family reported that no nameplate was ever affixed to their house, nor was there any indication of one being removed. Suspicions deepened when their bank passbook revealed fund transactions inconsistent with PMAY guidelines. In a live video, a municipal official was also heard mentioning an area named “Navi Nahar”, further complicating the matter.
Davinder Kaler stated that a list has been submitted to the Municipal Council for verifying the accounts and documents of the mentioned families. He assured that if any discrepancies are found, strict action will be taken against those responsible. He also contacted the Executive Officer (EO) by phone, demanding a prompt resolution, failing which an official report will be filed. This case is now taking a more serious turn, and only a thorough investigation will reveal the complete truth.
