The NSS Wing of Post Graduate Government College for Girls, Sector 42 Chandigarh, in collaboration with the Srishti Environment Society, celebrated World Environment Day with great enthusiasm and commitment on 5th June 2025. The program commenced with a green welcome to the Chief Guest, Shri Prabhunath Shahi, Founder of JMJS Foundation, Chandigarh, by the esteemed Principal, Professor Dr. Binu Dogra. In his thought-provoking address, Shri Prabhunath Shahi shared insights from his pioneering initiative Pariyavaran Pathshala, inspiring the audience to adopt sustainable and eco-friendly practices in daily life.
The event was skillfully coordinated and facilitated by Dr. Sunita (Incharge, Srishti Environment Society) and Dr. Tajinder Kaur (NSS Incharge), who ensured the active engagement of students and smooth conduct of the activities. To mark the day, students participated wholeheartedly in various competitions such as poster making, speech presentations, and video making, all centered around the theme of environmental awareness and sustainability. These activities reflected the creativity and environmental consciousness of the youth. Dr. Binu Dogra initiated the plantation by planting a sapling in Sanjeevani Herbal Park of the college campus, symbolizing the commitment of the institution towards greener planet. Principle also highlighted the theme of World Environment Day 2025, urging the youth to become stewards of sustainability.
A pledge was taken by all attendees under the initiative “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, reaffirming their commitment to protect and preserve Mother Earth by planting trees and adopting green habits. Mother is the reason we exist – Nature too is a mother, and it’s our duty to protect her. The celebration was a meaningful step towards promoting environmental stewardship and reinforcing the collective responsibility to safeguard our planet for future generations.
